Working hard to block an energy efficiency bill

After only being able to garner 46 votes in the NH House for an attempted raid on NH’s renewable energy fund, it appears that PSNH and State Senator Betsi DeVries is working hard behind the scenes to hold hostage an important energy bill moving through the Senate in an attempt to undermine the House vote.

DeVries is proposing to attach the exact same bill the House overwhelmingly rejected Wednesday on legislation which has no opposition and is designed to dramatically increase energy efficiency and renewable development in New Hampshire.

The legislation DeVries is attempting to hold up, HB 1554, will enable thousands of NH citizens the ability to invest in energy efficiency and clean energy improvements for their homes. By amending the bill with the very unpopular renewable energy fund raid, it appears PSNH and the Senators are hoping to force a political deal on a project opponents have dubbed “an earmark” for a single large corporation.

Apparently DeVries and PSNH would rather spend their time playing political games than work in the best interests of renewable development and the citizens of our state.

We are left to wonder what part of the House’s overwhelming rejection of the DeVries’ raid did they and PSNH not understand?
