“Green” Candidates Wanted – Ever Thought About Running for Office?

Here at Conservation New Hampshire, we know that some of the most important decisions that are made affecting our environment are made by our elected officials, so one of the most important things we can do to protect New Hampshire’s environment is to find and encourage pro-conservation candidates to run for office.

Filing period in New Hampshire began on June 2nd and ends on June 11th.  Interested?  Let us know how we can help.

Conservation issues are not Republican or Democratic, liberal or conservative. We believe that all Granite Staters care about our environment and quality of life, and deserve representatives in Concord and in Washington who share these values.

We can all work tirelessly to recycle and conserve land and water, but if anti-environmental officials are elected to the Statehouse, we can lose everything we have worked for.

One example:  Over the past decade (and more), conservation advocates have fought hard to secure funding to preserve our farms, forests and historic properties for future generations.

In 2006, the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) finally received the dedicated funding it needs to protect our state’s unique quality of life.  The legislature can undo all this progress with one amendment to one bill.

As New York Times columnist Tom Friedman eloquently put it, “the greenest thing you can do is this: Choose the right leaders. It is so much more important to change your leaders than change your light bulbs.”

So, even if now is not the time for you to throw your hat into the ring, support your local “green” candidate – you’ll be glad you did!
