The 15th Anniversary Androscoggin Source to the Sea Canoe & Kayak Trek
If canoeing or kayaking down a scenic New England river sounds like an activity you or your family might enjoy, check out the Androscoggin Source to the Sea Trek. Put together for the past fifteen years by the Androscoggin River Watershed Council, the Trek is a great way to explore the outdoors of Maine and New Hampshire, all while learning about the importance of the Androscoggin River as an economic and ecological resource.
The Androscoggin River is 174 miles long, but don’t worry, the Trek highlights various sections from Berlin down to Durham, and participants can select just a section to explore. Shuttles and section leaders will be provided, and there will also be opportunities to win great prizes. The Trek is free for all who are interested, though registration is required. Participants can choose to take part for one day, though information on camping and lodging near the river is provided for those interested in a longer excursion. Don’t let any worry regarding the difficulty of the Trek stop you; most sections are flatwater with a gentle current. Thousands have had a great time partaking in previous Treks, so be sure to look into taking part in this celebration of northern New England’s natural environment.
The Trek gets started this Friday, July 9th, at the Androscoggin source, Lake Umbagog, and continues until August 8th.
